Our Purpose
The Story of How ZEM Life Started
Zachary Ernest Muth (hence the name ZEM), Co-Founder Steve Muth’s only child, died tragically from an opioid overdose. Zachary was an avid animal lover, as animals can be very therapeutic in nature, helping individuals with all types of ailments to move forward. Unfortunately, Zachary lost his life from a fentanyl overdose. Fentanyl is an extremely potent opioid that is often cut into other drugs, such as fake oxycodone, cocaine, fake Xanax, and others, and sold on the street. A minute amount of fentanyl can adversely affect any individual, whether they are a first responder, friend, or the victim. Opioid overdoses in young people usually occur when the individual is alone somewhere and not in a party setting, as is often thought. Mr. Muth's life changed after his child died from the overdose, and the creation of our wearable live-saving device is one result of that change. His feeling of helplessness was overwhelming, and he dreamed of ways in which he could have helped save his son's life.
Through perfect alignment, Steve Muth had the great fortune of meeting Co-Founder Joanna Meston, who ultimately had the idea of adding medicine to Steve’s smartwatch concept, and our life-saving device idea was born! There are so many fantastic organizations and nonprofits that have resulted from heartbreak, and ZEM Life Device Company is seeking to be the next great organization to turn tragedy into something positive for others by changing the world and stopping preventable deaths.
